The loggerhead turtle or the Caretta caretta is one of seven sea turtles found around the world. It is an omnivore with powerful jaws and is known to eat jellyfish, crabs, floating mollusks, floating eggs and squid to name a few. Hatch-lings are born at a weight of 18-21 grams and can attain 600 kg and an age of 50 years or more. The young are often eaten by birds, larger fish and as adults they will become prey to sharks
All turtles are presently endangered which is due to many reasons but mostly preventable. They are often harvested for their meat, their shells are used in several cultures as wedding gifts and ornaments, they ingest plastic which they can not regurgitate and later causes intestinal blockages, or from boat/ship strikes.
