The product is called d2w (degrade 2 water), which is an additive developed by Symphony Plastic Technologies in the Uk which causes plastic products such as carrier bags, refuse sacks, shrink wrap and bread bags to degrade totally in a predetermined period when these items would normally remain in the environment for several centuries. According to research resently conducted by the ORCA Foundation in Plettenberg Bay, 25% of all trash collected was food or beverage wrapping which consisted mostly of plastic and a further 57% was attributed to various unidentifiable plastic bits.
